Product overview: Fluke 773 Milliamp Process Clamp Meter

Save time and money by measuring output signals without shutting down the system

The Fluke 773 milliamp clamp meter is accurate, versatile, and highly portable. It saves time and money by measuring 4–20 mA signals five times faster than with traditional multimeters, and without breaking the loop. That means you can troubleshoot a live device without having to power down and possibly miss something going on in the process.

The 773 is ideal for troubleshooting transmitters, valves, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) found in process plants. The 773 allows you to connect to a mA loop in a traditional series workflow to measure, source, or simulate a control system. And it measures up to 99.0 mA non-contact, including 10 to 50 mA signals in older control systems.

The 773 also sources and measures DC voltage, so it can be used to troubleshoot voltage input and output devices that accept a 1-5 V or 0 to 10 V signal. You can detach the clamp section of the meter and use it as a remote jaw, connected to the main body by an extension cable to make it easier to take measurements in tight spaces.

Work smarter with the 778 mA Clamp Meter

An integrated measurement spotlight allows you to illuminate hard to see wires in dark enclosures while a dual backlit display can show mA measurement and percent of 4 to 20 mA span simultaneously. Use the Hold function to capture measurements on-screen for verification and recording purposes. Plus, automatic power-off features save battery life so you can work longer without changing the batteries.

Advanced loop troubleshooting

With the unique mA scale feature users can measure a mA signal without breaking the loop and output that signal to another device to record the measurements. The 773 also includes simultaneous mA in-circuit measurement with 24 V loop power for powering and testing transmitter. You can also apply a mA input signal to a device and measure its 4-20 mA output on devices such as valves or mA isolators. Offers mA or voltage output linear ramp or 25% step output.

what is the clamps size? what guage wire max?

Asked by: bbalkuv
The Fluke 773 Milliamp Process Clamp Meter's diameter of measurable conductor is .177" or 4.5 mm max. The gauge for the wire size is approximately 6 gauge.

How is an ripple current measured at the DC-clamp. For example an DC current 10 mA with an 100 Hz ripple

Asked by: Andre
There is no spec for ripple current. However, the magnetic pickup on the clamp is highly susceptible to noise (i.e. being on or near an elevator). If you are looking for more specific information we suggest the data sheet, or instruction sheet found under the "Manuals + resources" tab.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed. I ran into a situation where I needed to source power on my loop and this is the tool to do the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Value for money I bought this meter thinking I mite get some use out of it, never really expecting it to be such a valuable asset to my daily fault finding role. The loop power and mA in out functions are brilliant. This meter is worth the high price paid for it. It is so easy to verify PLC analog inputs vs instrument issues, set up loop powered valves with feedback, etc without having to run in and out checking a HMI. Battery life is way better than expected Fluke connect & 24V source would be valuable upgrades

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Major Time Saver I have been using this meter for quite a while around water treatment plants and found it to be very useful at troubleshooting current loops. Clamp on meters for DC are relatively new but this works without bugs. We have both a 772 and a 773 meter. The 773 allows sourcing of a signal providing fast verification of new wiring. It is also quick to determine if an instrument has a faulty output or the display/PLC module is bad. There is no need to break a circuit to see why there is no voltage. It is almost a must-have for commisioning new IO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Time Saver The Fluke 773 Meter has made my work with process instrumentation far more enjoyable. Having to not break the loop to check the current is invaluable, and having voltmeter functionality available in the same meter saves even more time. Only one minor complaint -- the supplied leadset isn't up to the usual Fluke standard -- the wires are small and flimsy, rather than the nearly-indestructible test leads normally supplied with all other fluke meters that I've purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Breaking the Loop This is an incredible troubleshooting tool. Quick check for mA with a error of only .06 mA in most cases. The VDC measurement, source, and simulate functions just add to the usefulness. I am very pleased with my purchase
