Product overview: Fluke 87V MAX True-rms Digital Multimeter

The 87V MAX contains all the trusted features of the most popular digital multimeter used today, the Fluke 87V, and then some. From wet, dusty or dark environments to long days, the 87V MAX was designed to help you finish the most on a work site. It features a unique function for accurate voltage and frequency measurements on variable frequency motor drives (VFDs) and other electrically noisy equipment; using true-rms ac voltage and current for accurate measurements on non-linear signals.

Fluke’s most rugged digital multimeter

The 87V MAX is built with an IP67 rated, industrial-strength case and a removable holster. The holster doubles as a test probe holder for easier, one-handed operation. This meter is fully waterproof and dust proof keep working reliably no matter where your job takes you.

4-meter Drop tested

  • Industrial-strength is no joke, the meter is designed to survive drops up to 4-meters (13 feet).

Withstands hot and cold environments

  • Rely on accurate measurements with the extended operating temperature range of -40 °C (for up to 20 minutes) to +55 °C.

Easy-to-read measurements

The large display digits and 2-level bright, white backlight and backlit keypad buttons make for increased visibility. Along with the high resolution 19,999 count display mode allows you to read measurements easily in any work environment. This multimeter will run for up to 800 hours of battery life and offers measurement capabilities

How do I calibrate this meter? I have an older procedure downloaded for a 5502A but it fails to run. There are no procedures that I can find on the Cubyt server. It is like Fluke doesn't know what to do with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fluke 87V max I'm new to multimeters, but the Fluke 87 has a phenomenal reputation and the max version gives me piece of mind when the meter is sitting on an engine bay outside with the potential for falling or getting rained on. It was expensive, but I paid the premium because these are still made in the USA.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best 20,000 Count Handheld DMM Available I've owned my 87-V Max for about a year. I like that it accurately measures current draw with DC induction motors using inverters and PWM controllers; measurements that fool other meters. I have no idea how this works, but I performed the calculations, and the meter read ~the correct value. It is perfectly accurate at 10VDC, measured against a Fluke 732B DC Standard. The 732B is a bit overkill for a handheld DMM, but it doesn't harm anything to use one for verification. I haven't had cause to use uA or uV scales, but I'll update if and when I do. Of note is that the 87-V Max is not approved for use in residential and domestic quarters and property zones, due to the more stringent FCC rules for electromagnetic interference in domestic zones. So, if you have an instance in which the meter is out of spec. during the warrantee period, you must be using the device in a commercial or industrial zone, or the claim may be denied. I have found the Fluke '87-V' Max to be better than the '87-V' in that seals are provided for the 2 unused terminals--usually amps--making the unit ip67, or 'sealed against water entry'! I'm always cautious to keep the meter dry, but with the 87-V Max it's no big deal. The accuracy figures spec'ed by Fluke--the manufacturer--have been well within spec, at the DCV, ACA, kOHMS and DCA. I have precision instruments capable of making such an evaluation, including the aforementioned Fluke 732B DC Standard and an ESI SR104 Standard 10k Resistance Bridge, precision current shunts, and a Fluke 720A Precision Divider. I'm not claiming every example of the 87-V Max will be as good as mine. But mine is most likely near average.
