Product overview: Fluke T5-1000 Voltage, Continuity and Current Tester

Measure current up to 100 A without breaking the circuit with OpenJaw™ design. The T5-1000 Electrical Tester is a versatile troubleshooting tool to carry to every job site. Use it to check voltage, continuity, and current–all with one compact tool.

How to use the T5-1000

Just select volts, ohms, or current and the tester does the rest. The electrical tester auto-selects between AC and DC voltage up to 1000 V.

Plus, the OpenJaw™ design allows for fast and easy current measurements without needing to make metallic contact, just slide a wire into the open fork. The continuity beeper offers a quick go/no-go tests, resistance measurements to 1000 Ω.

The electrical tester comes with detachable Slim Reach probe tips so you can easily work in tight spaces. Or hand free work when you use the test lead holder to make the meter an “extended handle” for the probe.

Key safety features

An integrated protection circuit allows the tester to stay connected to a voltage source longer than a solenoid tester. The T5-1000 Electrical Tester also boasts:

A CAT III 1000V, CAT IV 600 V rating

Withstands a 10 ft. (3 m) drop.

The T5-1000 has and Auto-off mode to conserve battery life. The unit fits into an optional holster that attaches to a belt and neatly stows test leads.

Fluke T5-1000 vs T6-1000

The T5-1000 uses the OpenJaw™ design to measure current without metallic contact, just slide the wire in the open fork and the T5 will do the rest. It also measures voltage and continuity with the test leads. The T6-1000 (https://www.fluke.com/en-us/product/electrical-testing/basic-testers/fluke-t6-1000) is designed to use FieldSense™ technology to display both current and voltage simultaneously.

“This is a very good meter and I trust my life with it almost every day” - Kevin

Fluke T5-1000 Voltage, Continuity and Current Tester is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 69.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tester for new to experienced Workers I love this tester. I have been an electrician for about 10 years and love the versatility of it. I have other fluke testers but the compact design make this a meter you can carry in your back pocket. The amp tester is easy to use in hard places where a clamp cant get. I would recommend this meter to guys coming into the trade and seasons workers who need something a little more convenient. Fluke always knocks it out the park.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this compact meter I use this meter everyday to protect my life and trust it thoroughly (while still taking necessary testing before and after). My one and ONLY complaint about the meter: the leads tend to get stuck when you insert them in the meter, that is, the forward testing part of the meter. Takes a little effort to pry it out. It's compact size and great safety rating help me feel confident and comfortable carrying this meter day in and day out in an industrial location.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beware - nonrepairable Used maybe 10 times, my Fluke stopped working -- would not turn on -- when it went out of warranty. I'm an Electrical Engineer, so I tried to fix it. It is nonrepairable. It cannot be disassembled. Do yourself a favor. Buy a really cheap, throwaway instead of spending the money to buy Fluke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable!!! I use several models of fluke instruments. This day I had my T5-1000. Quick job, working high on crane rail, put in pocket easy. I dropped this meter from the 6th floor crane rail and it fell to the 3rd floor, hit hard. NOTHING BROKE, meter still works perfect. Hard to believe? I have 2 witnesses. Excellent products here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wish it had... I am very impressed with the durability and functionality of the T5-1000.  Will Fluke add a receptacle tester paired with the T5 to send a circuit tracing pulse that is sensed by the T5 for live circuit tracing?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best For The Price !! I use it At work every Day As An Electrical Foreman On Commercial Job Site. Its Easy To Carry Around and Almost Feels As If Im not Even Wearing it. I have used other testers But Everyone and I have Grown to Depend On Fluke.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great meter, but this is a great meter to own, have had mine for 5 years. Check current and volts easy. however, not DC current. Also, if checking continuity, not sensitive enough. have a lot of three phase motors that are bad. but, meter scale said it was good. 1K not sensitive enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in an industrial environment I have used this as my primary meter for over seven years now. The amp meter is very useful when troubleshooting in an industrial environment. I have to use the 170 series when working with capacitors, potentiometers etc. But, I prefer to use the T5 when possible. It doesn't read mV or mA. If, it did it would be the perfect meter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't get my HVAC job done without it Bullet proof and reliable. Easily read and dependable. great product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No DC clamp ability, low precision If you know what you are getting, this is a good product. It's a bit frustrating that it doesn't state in the description that the clamp only works on AC current (not DC current). The Fluke website description also doesn't tell you this. If you want to measure DC current, you'll have to look elsewhere (I'm going to be getting the Fluke 179 multimeter and Fluke i410 clamp). Additionally, although I would likely use a different meter for measuring voltage in general, I was surprised at the lack of resolution on the DC voltage readings I was getting off 6 volt and 12 volt batteries. There is no decimal point, so if I was close to 6 volts or 12 volts, it would just round down to 6 or 12 (i.e. not giving a reading like 6.3 or 12.43). For my purposes, this level of detail is significant, especially if I don't know if a 12 volt battery is at 11.6 or 12.4 because the meter is rounding off to the nearest whole number). If you are just looking for a good AC clamp meter, this is likely a very good meter. Just not good for my purposes (motorcycle and automobile repair). Additionally it would be useful to have a manual that shows how to do things with more specificity than the current included diagram, which is very minimal.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Useless to me I purchased the T5 meter to replace my $4 Harbor Freight meter. I am looking to assess charging and voltage loss in 12v DC and this meter is not capable of the job. If this meter would go to one decimal for DC volts I would rate it at least 4 stars. The paperwork lists it's precision past one decimal so I do not understand why it is not displayed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Have I bought my first one almost 10 years ago, it's been dropped, kicked, beaten and tortured and is still working as well as the day I got it. I have 3 of these now, 1 I keep in my glove box, 1 in the kitchen drawer, and 1 I keep in my back pocket at work. I have gotten so use to this little meter I'd be lost if I didn't always have one in reach. Inexpensive, extremely durable, reliable, compact and portable. Covers all the basics needed whether your a professional service technician or just a DIY home user. It is insanely easy to learn and use with no complicated features the average person does not need anyhow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Robust meter Ive had my fluke t5 series meter for the last 5 years and it's been dropped fought with other tools in my bag been in the rain several times and not once has it give me any doubt. This meter is robust and simple to use the only downfall is that the ting size is too large to get in tight spots but apart from that one little gripe it's been the best meter I've ever owned!!! I've also got a 179 true RMS but it doesn't get used every day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My daily driver I use this tester nearly every day. I own 3 Fluke meters and this is the one I grab first and keep in my tool bag. Small form factor, light weight, easy to use. The only thing I would like to see is a higher resolution readout of the voltage. In AC voltage there is no decimal but there is in DC Voltage and Amps. Minor detail, and when I need higher number resolution, I breakout the 87V anyway....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent residential meter I purchased this to replace an older solenoid type tester and there is no comparrison. This meter can easily measure AC current, both AC and DC voltage and continuity versus just an AC voltage indicator from my old meter. It is durable, I am glad that you guys do drop tests off ladders, and easy to use. I use mine a lot. This meter is perfect for residential work.
