Product overview: Fluke 902 FC True-RMS HVAC Clamp Meter

Fluke 902 FC True-RMS HVAC Clamp Meter helps HVAC technicians work more efficiently on the work site.

The Fluke 902 FC Clamp Meter, with Fluke Connect wireless connectivity, can help HVAC technicians improve productivity in the field. The rugged dual-rated CAT III 600 V, CAT IV 300 V meter equips you to perform many essential HVAC system measurements: microamps for testing pilot light sensors; resistance up to 60 kΩ; AC current and AC/DC voltage; capacitance; and contact temperature, all with just one tool. Plus its small form factor makes it easy to hang on to and navigate in tight work spaces.

Part of the Fluke Connect wireless family

As part of the Fluke Connect family, the 902 FC can transmit measurements to a smartphone or tablet for later, detailed analysis. No need to write down the results. Trend and monitor measurements live on your phone screen, and upload those measurements to the cloud. Combine measurement data from multiple Fluke Connect test tools to create and share reports from the job site via email, and collaborate in real time with other colleagues with ShareLive™ video calls or email.

The 902 FC can also decrease the frequency of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when working on high voltage/current panels. Simply turn off the panel. Verify that it is de-energized using standard safety procedures. Place the clamp and synch it to a smartphone. Close the panel, reenergize it, and take measurements from a safe distance.

Other useful features:

  • Ergonomic design fits in your hand and can be used while wearing personal protective equipment
  • Large, easy-to-read backlit display improves readings in low light settings
  • Connects to your smartphone via Fluke Connect so you can read measurements at a safer distance
  • Measures AC current to 600 A and AC and DC voltage to 600 V
  • Measures capacitance to 1000 µF and DC current to 200 µA
  • Measures temperature from -10 °C to 400 °C (14 °F to 752 °F)
  • Offers True-RMS voltage and current measurements to accurately measure non-linear signals
  • Measures resistance to 60 kΩ
  • Offers Min/Max recording to capture variations automatically
  • Runs on two AA alkaline batteries

Reviews: Fluke 902 FC True-RMS HVAC Clamp Meter

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed again My first 902 meter lasted about 3 years and then when it stopped reading amperage and occasionally not turning on, and I found out that it had been replaced with the 902FC and was no longer supported. Although disappointed I was glad to see the wireless feature available. After having the 902FC meter and using it I noticed that it would no longer read amperage correctly, then it stopped reading micro farads and voltage. Being in the HVAC trade and relying on my tools, I have been very disappointed overall with the Fluke 902 FC line and their durability. I have other Fluke meters that have far outlasted both of the 902s and that is frustrating as someone who buys quality. I sincerely hope that Fluke steps up their game in the future and for now I am switching meter brands.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Failed Amp clamp Have replaced several fluke 902fc meters for the same reason , the amp clamp stopped working between 6months and a 1½ years & serial # wiped off since its on outside of meter. I'm disappointed in the durability.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Amp clamp failure I really liked it when I first purchased it about half a year ago, but the amp clamp on it has already failed and no longer gives amp readings. After some searching around I learned that it's a very common problem with this model, which is disappointing because I always liked Fluke products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best meter I have owned so far! I purchased my fluke 902fc about 3 months ago and am extremely pleased with its performance and features. I am a commercial HVAC technician and use this meter on a daily basis. Has alll the needed ranges and setting for the HVAC trade! Lots the ability to test flame sensors and lots the Bluetooth fluke connect feature as well!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable Fluke Quality I have been using my new 902FC TRMS Clamp Meter as a service technician in the HVAC field for about a month now in mostly residential applications. I bought this meter primarily for the wireless technology provided by Fluke Connect. I use it mainly for measuring current but have used the temperature probe once or twice and maybe even the test leads for a voltage measurement or two. I intended it to be used as a standalone tool with one purpose: to wirelessly transmit changes in current that correspond to changes with the load on the system and I must say, this meter excels at the purpose I gave it. However, you'll notice I call this meter the 902FC TRMS Clamp Meter because I do not consider it an HVAC meter due to the current resolution. If I can't measure current down to the hundredths of an amp, I cannot use this meter to accurately determine whether a draft motor on a gas furnace is within specification. If that draft motor is supposed to be pulling .65A and my meter tells me .6A I don't have the right tool for the job. A lot of people have told me, "you're trying to get too specific" and I get where that's coming from, I simply do not agree because it is my job to be as specific and precise as possible. I bought this Fluke meter because I knew I could use it with confidence and I will continue to buy Fluke products for that reason, however a meter marketed as an "HVAC" meter that lacks a potentially crucial feature can dishearten even the most loyal of customers, one might even feel misled. If it weren't for my trust in the product Fluke generates with reliability, accuracy and innovations like Fluke Connect...I would have returned the meter solely on those grounds. This meter works just as hard as I do and I have never had a problem with any of my Fluke products in the sun, rain, ice or snow. I understand that motors with such small amp specifications are probably not the norm for most technicians out there but I know that this is a feature most technicians would appreciate if they're serious about their job. So, now that I have said what I needed to say I would like to address my audience directly in a very concise manner allowing you to ignore everything I've just said. To Potential Customers: Yes, absolutely buy this meter! Just know that as it currently stands, you won't be able to measure current down to the hundredths of an amp. To Fluke: Please incorporate .01 resolution into the 902FC TRMS Clamp Meter, honestly I am totally willing to buy another if you do! It would give me great confidance in the company to see that as opposed to say, just taking "HVAC" out of the meter's name.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best HVAC amp clamp yet I work in HVAC and want my customers to get the best possible service from me, that is why I choose Fluke over the others. Accuracy means so much to me and when you compare the 902 FC to other meters on the market you can see why I made this purchase. The 902 was a good meter the 902 FC is better for me personally. Pros The smaller size is nice and fits better in tighter access points. The dial now has a positive click feel versus the old 902. Fluke Connect Fluke product dependability/longevity Safety Cons Auto time off requires you to switch the dial to off then to the desired selection versus just moving the dial one click to another section then back saving time. Hanging kit not included Would be nice to have a probe clip or holder on clamp Clamp is wide but no wider than other Fluke Amp Clamps. As you can see the cons are insignificant to the value you get with the Pros. To me saving my customers money and time are critical. The one or more percent accuracy to me is why I choose Fluke.
