Barcode Magician

Barcode Magician software makes changes to devices within the MET/BASE database area of ​​MET/CAL ^® Plus . For example, to automate a task such as checking out a device to a customer, you specify in Barcode Magician software how a "checked out" device is represented in the database. Then you apply that instruction to a list of devices. This simple "check out" instruction can be represented by a barcode label and attached to a computer. Operators can use a barcode reader to scan the label into Barcode Magician software and a list of devices to update each record.

Real-time updates

Each transaction in Barcode Magician software updates the MET/CAL Plus database in real time. You can define criteria to prevent transactions from being made on certain devices, such as devices that are overdue for calibration or that have a certain status code. Such criteria-based controls can increase the integrity of your laboratory management system by defining systematic processes that must first be completed before a specified function can be performed on a device. For example, you could prevent overdue devices from being checked out.

At the end of each transaction, operators can be given the option to print a report. You can create a wide variety of reports: packing lists, calibration certificates, "follow-ups" for equipment or routing slips, transaction confirmations or lists of the currently issued test equipment. Reports specifically developed for Barcode Magician software are generated in a few seconds, whereas these reports could take several minutes to generate under MET/BASE.

User-friendly interface

The Barcode Magician software interface was designed with ease of use for the novice user in mind. When combined with a barcode reader, Barcode Magician software becomes an efficient and virtually error-proof data collection tool. Site updates can even be performed by employees who are completely unfamiliar with MET/CAL ^® Plus , and the database will still be updated consistently.

At the end of each transaction, operators can be offered the option to print a customized report. Up to two reports can be configured per station.

Barcode Magician software lets you set up a terminal for equipment transactions, such as a tool counter or lab window, in a publicly accessible location. A barcode reader lets customers check in gauges for calibration and check them out when they're finished. You can also set up a terminal for location updates, such as gauge transfers between projects or technicians. And you can add more traceability information to your MET/CAL ^® Plus system without adding extra work to users.
