Using RS-232 while taking data with your 1523 or 1524 Referrence Thermometer may result in a ground loop. Ground loops and electrical interference may result in inaccurate measurements if proper precautions are not taken. One method of breaking a ground loop is to use an optically coupled isolator. The isolator breaks the electrical ground loop by only communicating data, using light. The optically coupled isolator is connected between the personal computer and the RS-232 cable to the 1523/24.
