Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Fluke 115 and the Fluke 117?

While similar, the Fluke 115 and the Fluke 117 meters are designed for slightly different purposes. The Fluke 115 is a compact true-rms digital multimeter that’s great for field service. The Fluke 117 is a designed specifically for electricians. With a quick turn of the dial both units provide measurements for:

  • Resistance
  • Continuity
  • Frequency
  • Capacitance
  • Min/Max/Average

The Fluke 117 offers non-contact voltage detection and has a selectable low-impedance mode to prevent false readings from ghost voltage. The 117 also features automatic selection of AC or DC voltage, depending on what was detected.

Does the Fluke 117 read milliamps?

The Fluke 117 Electrician’s Multimeter includes a 10 amp current range for making both AC or DC current measurements. The maximum resolution is 1 milliamp.

How do you use a Fluke 117 True-rms multimeter?

What’s the best multimeter for electricians?

The Fluke 117 digital multimeter is designed for electricians. The Fluke 117 provides highly accurate measurements for frequency and capacitance as well as Min/Max/Average readings. Non-contact voltage detection offers a fast way to determine if live voltage is present in the area being tested. The low impedance mode prevents detection of ghost voltages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT METER I bought this meter to replace a 115 that was stolen from me. Since I was replacing the meter, I decided to upgrade to the 117. It has all of the features of the 1115 plus auto ranging and non-contact voltage detection. This eliminates the need to carry a separate voltage detector, which means one less tool to carry and keep track of. The 115 served me well and I expect the 117 will do so as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Multimeter I Have Owned The 117 Multimeter has exceeded my expectations. In addition to all of its features, the display is the best I have seen when compared to other meters. Readings are steady. It is extremely well built. It feels good in your hand and has all the functions I would ever want. I also purchased the TL175 TwistGuard leads. Very flexible silicone, great combination. I believe it's a great value for the price. Very pleased and would highly recommend this meter for any application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still a #1 tool after 12+ years of use. I bought this meter when it was new on the market. I have done work in 44 states without fail from my 117. I have taken extreme care of it as well. It still has the original film covering the display. (Pressed firmly so it clearly visible.) You won't be disappointed with your purchase. The "no contact volt alert" is definitely a time saver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality products. I always recommend Fluke. I’ve always loved Fluke products and wish I could afford the bench top multi meter. My only negative review is that I ordered my 117 on April 10th and it didn’t ship until a month later. Other than that I’m a lifelong user of Fluke products. I’m an electromechanical technician and have used fluke meters in the Navy and on Military airfields and fuel farms as well as power plants.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect cheap(er) HVAC Controls Tech Meter I was given a $400 limit to buy a new meter for diagnosing low voltage electrical. I couldn't find anything that fit my needs for that price point any better than this. The milliamp signal reads out as 0.004-0.020 for 4-20 mA, which isn't ideal, but it works. Just not exactly what I would like when the range of a CO2 sensor is 0-2000 and the signal is 4-20 mA. I certainly will never calibrate anything with this, but it works for diagnostics.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great meter overall ... but Really like the Fluke 117 meter, but very disappointed in the Fluke TL-75 test leads. They are PVC and are very stiff at room temp and have a lot of memory, say nothing about outside in a Minnesota winter. Wish the meter came with the Fluke TL-71 silicone test leads, that would have been sweet!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All I Needed! Fluke 117 This 117 is exactly what I needed.. I've tried others that just don't stand up to Flukes.
