Rated 5 out of 5 by scotto from This Meter is a Little Powerhouse I purchased two of these to support an ongoing test where they will be left in place for several months. I initially purchased this model because it was inexpensive and supported the basic functions that I needed covered for the test but have since updated more meters in my facility with this model due to its versatility, durability and price.
I am amazed at how much functionality you get for a small price these days, Fluke has done well with this and so many other products that I have bought from them

Rated 5 out of 5 by stevo from One of the most reliable tools in my arsenal I've had this in my tool bag since I was in college studying electrical engineering, and over the years I've used it for everything from small electronics, car work, and now testing house hold circuits. It is by far one of the best investments I've made in my early years. The backlight is incredibly useful when you're sitting upside down on your driver's seat, with your face in the deep dark pits of the dashboard, or when you're in the corner of the attic wiring up a junction box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Matteo from Love this Meter! I've had this meter for a couple of years now and I've used it for everything from building my custom drone to troubleshooting our churches electronic restroom fixtures. Most recently I repaired my coffee roaster by testing voltages, resistance and then using the temp probe to confirm the exhaust temperature spec.
I absolutely love this thing! Buy right the first time and you'll enjoy it every time you use it. I highly recommend this meter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by nojoeschmoe from Perfect for our startup just completed a multimillion dollar expansion and got these 179 multimeters for our startup team. They worked perfect for the industrial setting from ringing out bad installation wiring, to voltage/ammeter checkout, including a few accidental drops on the plant floor and still worked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MichEngin08 from Great Robust Meter As a homeowner, hobbyist, and electrical engineer a quality multimeter was a need for me. I was tired of buying cheap meters that didn't work well. I decided to buy the best, Fluke. I've been very happy with the quality and performance of the meter. The meter is very responsive when checking continuity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Geoff from The Benchmark for DMMs This is our daily use DMM at work, it's rarely out of use often enough to make it back to its place in the tool chest. I have a cheaper one in my desk drawer, but it really only comes out if I can't find the Fluke. Our field technicians also carry this model in their toolboxes. We make specialized construction products and routinely work with AC and multiple DC voltages, so most of the features are used regularly, with the exception of maybe temperature (though that is a nice bonus).
The meters are not difficult to use, even for someone without a lot of electrical knowledge. They're durable and built for real world use, well protected from the construction environment. There's a reason you see Fluke in toolboxes and on jobsites everywhere, simply put they are the benchmark for quality electrical measurement equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by biokeith from Great DMM This is definitely my go to meter. Accuracy and durability are second to no other brand. I am required to calibrate every year but when I ask the tech how far out of cal it is he says it's right on. Takes a beating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gator1994 from Amazing! I've had this meter for a little while and it's perfect! It suits everything that I need as a fire alarm technician! Most of the guys I work with use the 115 but are quick to ask to borrow my meter! Simply an amazing meter, it will be the only model meter I'll ever use!

Rated 5 out of 5 by DMM user from One of the best DMM for daily use I decided to choice this model after I watched reviews for probably all Fluke DMMs.
This is one of the best DMM for daily use. Excellent ergonomics with center of gravity exactly in middle of device, very accurate metering and excellent TL-175 test leads already included with device.
Would be a good to have precise measuring mode with extended range up to 20 000 counts like in 28 II and 87 V in this model too, because it much compact in comparison with two listed above and probably AC175 Alligator Clips included.
What I personally don't like is 9V Neda battery and how it connected in device. 3 AA batteries give more energy and easy to change. My next try will be using Lithium battery for extended power on time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BTibbitts from Simple, Accurate, Reliable, and rugged I absolutely love the features of the 179, it has great feel with modern ergonomic design. I also use the i410 current clamp with it for higher amperage readings, I use it on everything from High voltage AC to Automotive electrical, and often at the electronics level. It has several essential measurement capabilities, and does each very accurately.

Rated 4 out of 5 by WHY1 from Pretty good tool I use the meter daily and have never had a problem with it. I knocked of a star because I don’t understand the DC Hz function. At first I thought maybe there was some sort of AC/DC coupling selection but if set to DC Hz it always measures 0 :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Edr1924 from Amazing... When i was young I could not afford a Fluke DMM but 30 years later I bought my first Fluke (179) and could not be happier! I use it for my hobby and every time I work with the Fluke I enjoy it so much...

Rated 4 out of 5 by slacktrician from Fluke 179 A good meter to be sure but only four star from me as it's so slow to come up with a voltage reading. Put it on a known 240 or 400 volt supply and it's "umm errr....pause.... okay 230 volts it is". Just drives me nuts when I'm in a hurry on a breakdown. Probably about half the speed of my old TES meter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by kerstingm from Finally upgraded After years of reliable service (almost 20) my Fluke 73 had to be replaced (Forklift casualty) My number one upgrade option was I wanted a background display light, I didn't have a need to upgrade to the 87 series, so I went with the 179 kit, I could not be more satisfied with my choice. When I first got into the maintenance field I learned my electrical troubleshooting with Fluke meters and haven't looked at any others. Along with my 374 clamp on I use these everyday without any issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JUNZ from 179 = 2nd to none I have owned a 179 for years. I am pleased with its ruggedness, ease of care, accuracy and size. As a professional, who uses a 179 for troubleshooting 480 and 600 volt cabinets, I can honestly say I would want no other meter in my toolkit. The temperature probe comes in especially handy!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by MikeC from My new F179 DMM F179 is a very top of the line DMM! I love it!!! The selector dial is rugged and the 9v battery is easy to change without taking apart the entire meter. Dust can be easily cleaned out of the display area. I also own two F77's series I and II. I conect all three DMMs to a DC power supply, they give me the same figures. The F179 starts up faster than the two F77's when being turned on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Eugbug from Rugged Accurate Meter With Lots of Features I bought this meter 15 years ago because I wanted a reliable accurate instrument produced by a world renowned test equipment manufacturer - and I wasn't disappointed!
Specifically I wanted a meter with good accuracy and the 0.09% DC volts spec allows me to use the instrument to check up on my other less acurate DMMs
The solid casing of the meter has withstood numerous bumps and scrapes over the years.
This autoranging DMM has several useful features such as peak measurement, average reading, reading hold (for when you can't see the meter) and a capacitance range. The frequency range comes in useful also.
And of course the display can be illuminated and the meter auto shuts off!

Rated 5 out of 5 by jbaum2002 from great unit rugged and easy to use this unit keeps going with out fail.
the TL 71 test leads are great but have a short wire life , the wires break but the insulation stays intact needs better wire curs?
the 179 that i have needed the bumper reglued twice ase the machining coolants attack some plactecs and paint/ink
i had to remark the knob indicator several times allready.
tyhe catch is overall in a bad enviroment of out plant it holds up a lot better than amprob and aec they literly fall apart with stress cracking and glue disolving

Rated 5 out of 5 by eolmstead from Fantastic DMM! My review is based specifically on my experience with my new model 179. I ordered the kit with the skinny silicone leads and sharp electronics-type probes. This meter has performed flawlessly, and covers every need of mine to check for current, voltages, and resistance. I'm an HVAC controls technician, so I am dealing with 120v line voltage down to millivolts and milliamps. The resolution on this meter is excellent, and even for temperatures it is very accurate using the included thermocouple. The case is rugged, the rubber bumpers haven't come into play just yet but its a nice feature to know I have incase the meter ever is dropped. As with all fluke meters, do yourself a favor and purchase the t-pak meter hanging kit. That in itself deserves its own praising review! I own several thousand dollars worth of fluke instruments, from DMM's to calibrating thermometers, and not once have I been let down. Thank you Fluke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by rsjsouza from Great DMM for mixed electrical and electronics usage I recently purchased a Fluke 179 and have been using it in a mixed environment in electrical systems and electronic circuit testing.
The set of functions on this equipment is perfectly suitable for dealing with electrical systems, especially the default AC setting on current measurements. Good pluses are the frequency meter, the capacitance meter that reaches micro-farad measurements and even the temperature (to avoid burning my hands or fingers in sometimes overheat equipment).
For electronic circuit testing, the only missing functions are a micro-ammeter and a pico-farad range on the capacitance meter. However, the DC mili-volt range, the 100kHz frequency meter and the ohmmeter range are excellent. Good pluses are the excellent responsiveness of the bargraph and the conductivity "beep".
Other interesting features: no annoying beeps when switching between functions, sturdy construction with the integrated rubber back (although it would be nicer if it was detachable), the rotary function switch is very precise (rarely switches to a wrong position), the battery replacement does not require disassembling the whole unit, high-voltage protection fuses (although somewhat on the expensive side).
One detail that would be nice is to auto-detect if the probe was connected to the correct ammeter inputs. I sometimes got confused in my measurements because of that...

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bretman from Awesome piece of equipment This is an extremely good unit that gives incredibly accurate and reliable information. If you work in service you have got to have a tool that you can rely. This is my second unit the first one I dropped off a roof and it landed in a gigantic puddle of water it still works. However, the temperature readings are a little off and I like precision so now it's a backup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by hacko3424 from Best darn DVM I've ever had! I bought my 179 about a year ago. Used Fluke equipment exclusively with the major aerospace company I retired from. And now I finally have one. It's a superb piece of equipment that surpasses any equivilant piece of equipment in it's class. I restore antique tube type radios and it fits my needs perfectly. Didn't think I'd use the thermometer function but needed to know how hot a couple of resistors were running and that is a very usefull function of this meter.
