Product overview: Fluke 233 Remote Display Digital Multimeter

Fluke 233 Remote Display Digital Multimeter gives you ultimate flexibility in tough measurement situations

The Fluke 233 Digital Multimeter with its removable display gives you the flexibility to take measurements in hard to reach places or in areas with restricted access. You can be in two places at once and reduce the risk of arc flash by separating yourself from hazardous measurement situations. Just connect the meter to the test point and then place the display in a location up to 10 meters (33 ft.) away where you can see it. No more having to stretch into tight spots or hard to reach locations to take measurements. No more having to hold both the meter and the test leads to make a measurement. The Fluke 233 is ideal for any application where the measurement point is separated from controls or where you can't stay close to the meter during measurements due to hazards, moving machinery or in clean rooms. Plus, it features True RMS AC voltage and current for accurate measurements on non-linear signals.

Other useful features:

  • Radio transmitter automatically turns off the when the display is connected to the meter so you can use it as a conventional multimeter
  • Easy to read display with large digits and bright backlight
  • Delivers approximately 400 hours of battery life
  • Offers resistance, continuity, and diode test
  • Features a removable magnetic display that can be conveniently mounted where it can be easily seen
  • Low power wireless technology allows the display to be moved up to 10 meters (33 ft.) away from the point of measurement, without causing measurement interference
  • Allows you to take measurements without holding the meter, to improve visual focus on probes and augment safe electrical measurements
  • Provides auto power-off to maximize battery life
  • Features Min/Max, and Average recording to capture variations automatically

I have a customer that wants me to test some power Capacitors they are rated at 9960V and 5.34uF. Will this meter actually be able to charge this capacitor and get a reading?

Asked by: PowerTech
No, the Fluke 233 Remote Display Digital Multimeter is not able to perform in a 9960V capacitor application. Unfortunately, we do not offer a tool for that application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome meter Was looking at this meter for a few years. Finally bought it when my 87V broke after 17 years. The removable display makes it so much easier to get readings.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Removable magnetic display is a great feature. Remember to remove batteries from both display and main unit to prevent battery acid damage. These multimeters maintain a small constant drain on the batteries and will cause the batteries to out gas the chemicals at a much higher rate causing acid powder to form on the battery contacts and corrode them away. Use either Lithium AA batteries or rechargeable non Alkaline batteries.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Removable head is wonderful for instrument work. I bought this about a year ago and have been happy with it. Great for everything it does. I wish it had a mA function, but otherwise it does all that I need.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Features, Great Meter when it works Bought my 233 in 2013 and loved the detachable display. As others have stated its pretty hard on batteries so I mainly use a cheap craftsman meter so I don't beat up the fluke and go through batteries all the time. Since its not my go to meter it has little use and failed on me last year. I sent it in and Fluke repaired it for $90 in 2016. After getting it back I verified the repair worked and then it sat in my toolbox for a year until I needed to get some precise resistance measurements this year only to find out the meter had again failed. Getting tired of paying so much for a meter that is so unreliable. Granted I have had this item for close to 5 years, I would be OK with having to get it repaired this many times if I was using it daily. However I only use it several times a year so I find it unreasonable to fail on me this much.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Convenient Package We just started using this unit on a regular basis. I like the removable face. I know it works up to at least 40 yards with a clear line of sight. I had to play with it. I do wish it had Fluke Connect capabilities and was able to attach the iFlex current probe. I ended up having to buy a Fluke 410 Amp Clamp to work with this unit. I'm not a huge fan of this on because I love my Fluke 279FC a lot more. The detachable face is good but not as important to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent DMM for diagnosing across the room I have owned numerous DMMs from Fluke. I still have ALL of them all in fully functional condition. I purchased the Fluke 233 specifically because I notice that I always found myself in a situation where I'm trying to troubleshoot something from across the room, such as a remote switch and contact, and I would squint my eyes from 15-20 feet away trying to see what the reading is. When I saw this remote display model, I knew that I needed this in my toolbag. I also really liked that this model has thermocouple and for the price it's unbeatable. I highly recommend this DMM for anyone currently in the market for one.
