Scenario:

The dc power supply (PSU) is one of the critical components in an automation or process system.

It supplies a steady 24 V dc to many components in the system.

If a hard failure occurs, the solution is simple: replace the PSU!

However if the problem is intermittent, or it returns after the PSU was replaced, then without the right tools, finding the root cause can be a tedious task.

  • The error-LED on the PSU is on. Is the problem the power supply, the input supply voltage or a load change on the demand side?
  • Show me how to diagnose power supplies using a multimeter and a scope.
