GREAT METER
WE HAVE 3 177'S AT OUR SHOP THAT WE HAVE USED FOR OVER 8 YEARS AND I HAVE RECENTLY BOUGHT A 179 FOR HOME. VERY DEPENDABLE METERS.

PERFECT FOR AUTOMOTIVE
Had this meter for 4 years, using as a professional mechanic. Flawless operation, quality second to none. Highly recommended.

Rugged Accurate Meter With Lots of Features
I bought this meter 15 years ago because I wanted a reliable accurate instrument produced by a world renowned test equipment manufacturer - and I wasn't disappointed!
Specifically I wanted a meter with good accuracy and the 0.09% DC volts spec allows me to use the instrument to check up on my other less acurate DMMs
The solid casing of the meter has withstood numerous bumps and scrapes over the years.
This autoranging DMM has several useful features such as peak measurement, average reading, reading hold (for when you can't see the meter) and a capacitance range. The frequency range comes in useful also.
And of course the display can be illuminated and the meter auto shuts off!

great unit rugged and easy to use
this unit keeps going with out fail.
the TL 71 test leads are great but have a short wire life , the wires break but the insulation stays intact needs better wire curs?
the 179 that i have needed the bumper reglued twice ase the machining coolants attack some plactecs and paint/ink
i had to remark the knob indicator several times allready.
tyhe catch is overall in a bad enviroment of out plant it holds up a lot better than amprob and aec they literly fall apart with stress cracking and glue disolving

Fantastic DMM!
My review is based specifically on my experience with my new model 179. I ordered the kit with the skinny silicone leads and sharp electronics-type probes. This meter has performed flawlessly, and covers every need of mine to check for current, voltages, and resistance. I'm an HVAC controls technician, so I am dealing with 120v line voltage down to millivolts and milliamps. The resolution on this meter is excellent, and even for temperatures it is very accurate using the included thermocouple. The case is rugged, the rubber bumpers haven't come into play just yet but its a nice feature to know I have incase the meter ever is dropped. As with all fluke meters, do yourself a favor and purchase the t-pak meter hanging kit. That in itself deserves its own praising review! I own several thousand dollars worth of fluke instruments, from DMM's to calibrating thermometers, and not once have I been let down. Thank you Fluke.

170 DMM
I have been using Fluke for about 18 years now. When they became more accrate and reliable than HP. Oh, and more affordable too.
I do performance automotive work as well as other work and I find my Fluke's hard working and every time I drop mine it is like the Energizer Bunny......................" It takes a licking and keeps on ticking".
In my opinion Fluke has become the measurment standard for my industry.

Great DMM for mixed electrical and electronics usage
I recently purchased a Fluke 179 and have been using it in a mixed environment in electrical systems and electronic circuit testing.
The set of functions on this equipment is perfectly suitable for dealing with electrical systems, especially the default AC setting on current measurements. Good pluses are the frequency meter, the capacitance meter that reaches micro-farad measurements and even the temperature (to avoid burning my hands or fingers in sometimes overheat equipment).
For electronic circuit testing, the only missing functions are a micro-ammeter and a pico-farad range on the capacitance meter. However, the DC mili-volt range, the 100kHz frequency meter and the ohmmeter range are excellent. Good pluses are the excellent responsiveness of the bargraph and the conductivity "beep".
Other interesting features: no annoying beeps when switching between functions, sturdy construction with the integrated rubber back (although it would be nicer if it was detachable), the rotary function switch is very precise (rarely switches to a wrong position), the battery replacement does not require disassembling the whole unit, high-voltage protection fuses (although somewhat on the expensive side).
One detail that would be nice is to auto-detect if the probe was connected to the correct ammeter inputs. I sometimes got confused in my measurements because of that...

Awesome piece of equipment
This is an extremely good unit that gives incredibly accurate and reliable information. If you work in service you have got to have a tool that you can rely. This is my second unit the first one I dropped off a roof and it landed in a gigantic puddle of water it still works. However, the temperature readings are a little off and I like precision so now it's a backup.

Best darn DVM I've ever had!
I bought my 179 about a year ago. Used Fluke equipment exclusively with the major aerospace company I retired from. And now I finally have one. It's a superb piece of equipment that surpasses any equivilant piece of equipment in it's class. I restore antique tube type radios and it fits my needs perfectly. Didn't think I'd use the thermometer function but needed to know how hot a couple of resistors were running and that is a very usefull function of this meter.

Excellent product. Now complaints, no downsides
Fluke 177 purchased for light industrial work. It is solid, stable on the standup bass, and reads easily. No downside to this intrument as long as you don't need temperature. If that's the case get the 179.

Great Value
I have had a Fluke 179 meter for a sevral years. It the most rugged meter I have used. It is an excelent value when a lower cost meter is required.
